Latest Travel Guidelines for youth football

This email has been sent to all league and club secretaries: please ensure to share it with all impacted teams.                                   Following the publication of the  legal text on travel restrictions, Sportscotland have been working with Scottish Government to further clarify specific points in relation to travel connected to sport and physical activity in Level 3 and 4 areas. The Scottish FA have this afternoon been provided with an update on the ‘Return to Sport and Physical activity guidance’ and as a result have updated the Return to Football Hub to reflect these changes.

The most up to date travel advice is as follows:

Children & Young People (U18s)

  • U18 players can travel to and from Level 0, 1, 2 and 3 areas, but not Level 4, to take part in organised football activity, training and matches.
  • U18 players living in a Level 4 area should only travel locally (within their local authority area) to take part in organised non-contact training.
  • U18 players living in a Level 4 area should only travel out with their local authority area (up to 5 miles) to take part in informal exercise such as walking, running or cycling which starts and finishes at the same place.  Such activity should follow Scottish Government 'meeting others outdoors' guidance.

Adults (18+)

  • 18+ players can travel to and from Level 0, 1 and 2 areas (but not Level 3 or 4) to take part in organised football activity, training and matches
  • 18+ players living in a Level 3 or Level 4 area should only travel locally (within their own local authority area) to take part in organised non-contact training.
  • 18+ players living in a Level 3 or Level 4 area should only travel out with their local authority area (up to 5 miles) to take part in informal exercise such as walking, cycling or running that starts and finishes at the same place.  Such activity should follow Scottish Government ‘meeting others outdoors’ guidance

All the best,
